New Discovery!:
An asteroidal object discovered by the
LINEAR survey on May 29, 2004, and
posted on the NEO Confirmation Page, has been found to be cometary by P.
Birtwhistle (Great Shefford) and by P. Holvercem and M. Schwartz (Tenagra Obs.).
The 18.5m comet C/2004 K3 (LINEAR) will pass perihelion on June
30, at about 1.1 AU. The comet is an intrinsically faint object and was discovered
near its closest approach to earth (about 0.6 AU). This is LINEARs 142nd
comet discovery.
